Michael E. Shay is a principal of
Praxis and has over twenty years of experience in the fields of human
resources, labor relations, and organizational development. For the
past ten years, Mike has served as a consultant to firms in the healthcare,
textile, apparel, steel, bottling, aerospace, paper-making, and automotive
supply industries. He has also consulted to state and federal government
agencies, as well as not for profit community development agencies.
Mike is a recognized expert on issues related to high performance
work systems, total quality, conflict resolution, contract negotiations,
joint improvement processes, and the development of strategic plans
for businesses and organizations. In addition to his consulting experience,
Mike has spent thousands of hours in grievance handling, arbitration,
National Labor Relations Board cases, and contract negotiations.
Mike's approach to consulting is firmly rooted in his experience
as a shop floor worker, union steward, local union president, supervisor,
and Central Jersey Director for the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile
Workers Union. He has spoken and written extensively about his work
and has given several international presentations.
Mike holds a BA
in Political Science from the University of Dayton, and has done
extensive graduate course work in Human Resources with a focus on
Labor Economics at Rutgers University
