Examples of Praxis' Conflict Resolution Work

  • In a  suburban school district, Board members and the public were embroiled in a dispute over differences in curriculum across schools.  Longstanding divisions over rankings, class, and race seemed insurmountable.  Praxis facilitated a community conversation for over 100 people who came to a Board meeting.  This broadened Board understanding and opened an avenue for constructive dialogue among Board members who had long been in deadlock.

  • The union safety committee in a manufacturing plant got in a shouting match with the plant manager over actions taken by a supervisor.  Interviews with each party revealed very different understandings about roles and expectations.  In a series of facilitated sessions, the parties worked together to clarify their needs and ways of meeting those needs in everyone’s best interest.

  • A hospital administrator contacted us for help with a surgical team whose members were undermining each other via rumors and gossip and refusal to meet outside of the operating room.  Resolution required frank discussions between several pairs.  After these discussions, the group came together to agree on behaviors expected outside of the operating room.
