Praxis History and Values

Praxis Consulting Group, Inc. was founded in Philadelphia in 1995 by two of our principals, Ginny Vanderslice and Alex Moss.

Initially we provided communication, training and organizational development services primarily to employee-owned companies. While we continue to work extensively with employee-owned companies, our practice has expanded to include work with nonprofits, socially responsible businesses and other organizations interested in developing workplace cultures that maximize employee engagement and responsibility. With the addition of consultants, Praxis has broadened its services to include: leadership development, coaching, union-management partnerships, process improvement strategies, strategic planning, governance, and conflict management.

Over the past fifteen years, Praxis has grown to include ten staff members, who together have backgrounds in a range of disciplines, including: organizational development, social psychology, adult education, business management, and finance.

We believe in the importance of giving back to the community. We do this by donating a portion of our profits each year to a selected nonprofit organization. We also provide some services on a pro bono basis to organizations in need, and we encourage staff to become actively involved in community organizations. In 2007, Praxis became a founding B Corporation, one of hundreds of companies across the country whose commitment to Triple Bottom line values (people, planet, and profits) is recognized via a stringent, third-party administered certification process.

How We Work
Praxis works cooperatively and collaboratively with organizational leaders to ensure that our work meets their needs. We customize our work to the circumstances and needs of the individual organization, including shaping a process to be congruent with the values of an organization.
We seek to understand, honor, and build on “what works” in order to create common ground and co-create the future. Through an “appreciative inquiry” perspective , we honor the past and present to create a compelling future.
We believe that the outcome of any planning process should be a plan that guides everyone’s actions and decisions over the course of the next few years.
We support a transparent decision making process. A clear decision-making process enhances relationships by minimizing confusion. While we work with a range of decision-making processes, our experience is the more people are involved in meaning making and then decision-making, the more ownership they have in implementation.
